Framework of Project Development

Conceptualization, accompanied by the research on the possibilities of implementation or execution, is our way to frame the project.

We carry out the implementation and execution of the project through a stage/gate process of development.

The stages are

Goal Settings

"One cannot not communicate" Paul Watzlawick.
This statement is an axiom and the determination of the way we work.

Meetings with Customers to define the goals is a fundamental part of any project.

Knowing the peculiarity of the paper machine, of the chemicals involved, additional points, past trials and experiences will drive from the beginning the experimental part of the project on the right path.

Technical and Economical constraints together with secondary objectives will also influence the available choices and must be carefully and deeply discussed and set during the first stage.

Cycle Survey

First steps to design the industrial process.

Even the most powerful Dry Strength enhancer will work only if it’s action will not disturb the equilibrium or drive the system to a more suitable one.

To study the cycle we are equipped with all the necessary instruments to measure fiber and water potentials, conductivity, fully automated drainage, freenes and retention analyzer, turbidimetry and more specific analysis upon necessity.

Knowing the flow chart of the Wet-end section, the chemicals and their addition points, together with the results of our survey is the first step to make a technical hypothesis on how to design the following process.

Lab Evaluation

Our designed lab process to scale up.

The experts in papermaking are aware of how hard it is to move the experimental process from the lab to its practical scaling on a paper machine. In recent years we developed a complete lab process to make the scale up conversion less uncertain and as realistic as possible.

The reason why we prefer to conduct tests in laboratories of our Customers is that there we work with raw materials, water and chemicals we will have during the industrial test.

Layout Definition

Decision making.

Laboratory study results bring us to the "to proceed / not yet to proceed" stage, where the final decision about the future of the project is taking place.

During the critical review we compare the goals, survey and lab studies. Together with our Customer we take a decision  to proceed further with an industrial trial based on the expected results.

We take into account all the equipment and test makedown units, necessary to define a proper layout and how to conduct the industrial trial.

Industrial Trials

Scale up from laboratory to paper machine.

Once the test makedown unit (if necessary) is installed and commissioned, the industrial trial can take place according to all the decisions taken in the first stages of the project development.

Usually the first trial has a limited duration of about 8 or 12 hours, that we continuously monitor.

When we settle the optimal conditions to guarantee the best runnability and results on the paper, the industrial trial could be initiated for a long time line (weeks or months).

This process is also regularly supervised by our team and supported with surveys and analysis of the produced paper properties in order to complete the fine tuning of the delivery.

Industrial

After the long term trial is complete, the product is ready to be fully implemented in the paper machine production process.

For its further integration in the control system of the paper machine (e.g. DCS), together with our Customer we set up the industrial makedown unit options, regulated through special commercial and legal contracts.
